Corsica is a region of France but geographically it lies closer to Italy, between the Ligurian and Thyrrhenian seas, separated from Sardinia by the windswept Straits of Bonifacio and only a few nautical miles from the coast of Tuscany.
Corsica has an excellent connections with the rest of Europe and there are regularly scheduled flights linking the airports in Calvi, Bastia, Ajaccio or Figari, with others in Provence, southern France as well as Paris and Europe.
Another means of transport to the island from both southern France and Italy is the ferry. To get around the island there are few alternatives to a car: the railway line and a network public buses.
To reach Calvi from Bastia, take the “Nationale 193” until Ponte Leccia, then take the “Nationale 197” until Ile Rousse and direction Calvi. From Ajaccio, direction Corte (Nationale 193) then Ponte Leccia (Nationale 197) until Ile Rousse and direction Calvi.
If you arrive to Calvi by the route from Ile Rousse, after the entrance of Calvi, you take the direction “centre ville” you continue straight ahead till you have the railway station on your right hand, then the post office on your left hand and next by you will see the Grand Hotel.
